Project Description

Agnew::Beck was contracted by the State of Alaska to assist the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPC) and the Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA) to develop a statewide plan aimed at preventing tobacco use in Alaska.

Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable deaths in Alaska. Many organizations and people throughout Alaska are making efforts to prevent and control tobacco use. Two of the largest organizations are the State of Alaska Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPC) and the Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA). The State TPC Program has been working to reduce the burden of tobacco use on the state since 1994. ATCA was formed as a membership organization in 1992 to work towards the vision of a tobacco-free Alaska.

The statewide strategic planning effort began with an assessment of current tobacco prevention and control activities in Alaska. With the assessment data, Agnew::Beck, in conjunction with The Foraker Group, facilitated and supported a strategic planning effort among statewide partners to create a Statewide Strategic Plan for Preventing Tobacco Use in Alaska. The Strategic Plan is intended to guide stakeholder efforts for the next five years.
