Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, Rural Technical Assistance Coordination

Project Date: 2001 to present
Project Manager: Beth McLaughlin
Clients: Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority
Locations: Rural Alaska statewide

In rural Alaska, funding is greatly needed for vital community services – particularly for vulnerable populations. Geographic and cultural divides often prevent small communities from accessing those resources. The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (AMHTA) is committed to reaching rural beneficiaries. To this end, the AMHTA has contracted with Agnew::Beck to provide ongoing assistance to rural organizations.

Agnew::Beck trouble-shoots and provides ongoing assistance to help move rural projects to fruition and to increase access to funding resources.
Services provided through this project vary and are tailored to meet the needs of appropriate requests. Agnew::Beck has responded to requests for funding research and resources to help projects succeed; requests for business planning and facility planning for new facilities such as multi-purpose centers and elder-assisted living facilities. Our firm has also responded to requests for capital fundraising strategies and ways to connect rural entities with potential funders.

We also assist in proposal development by mentoring staff, coordinating funding proposals, and editing and providing feedback. Agnew::Beck also advocates for particular projects to The Trust and assists with accessing funds and getting feedback on how proposals can be strengthened. Our work also includes creating or revising comprehensive plans.

Agnew::Beck has also planned The Trusts’s Rural Outreach Trip – connecting with visitors and village hosts; coordinating travel and lodging; and helping to make enriching, strong connections between rural residents and visiting policy-makers.
