Trapper Creek Comprehensive Plan
Project Date: 2004-2005
Lead: Chris Beck
Client: Matanuska-Susitna Borough
Location: Trapper Creek
Trapper Creek is a small community in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, located about 50 miles northwest of Wasilla. The residents of Trapper Creek, along with other communities across Alaska, have concluded that while they do not welcome regulation, taxes, or more meetings, they nonetheless want to guide the future of their community. In 2004, the Trapper Creek Community Council requested assistance from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough to help them prepare the community 's Comprehensive Plan. A Planning Team, primarily composed of Community Council members, was appointed to guide the process. In October 2004, Agnew::Beck Consulting was hired to assist the community in preparing their comprehensive plan.
In the Fall of 2004, Agnew::Beck consultants met with the Planning Team, followed by several visits with Trapper Creek residents. Community workshops were conducted in the spring of 2005 to review issues and options. Based on this input a draft plan was prepared and circulated for review in October of that year.
The October 2005 Draft Plan was revised to reflect comments received from the community. These included comments from a November 4, 2005 public workshop, continuing comments from residents and land owners, and meetings with the Planning Team in December and January of 2006. On January 18, 2006 the Planning Team approved the revised plan and forwarded the plan to the Community Council for their review and approval. The Community Council met with the community in February and decided not to approve the plan, due to concerns regarding a range of community issues. After a summer break the Community Council is now working with Matanuska-Susitna Borough staff to make necessary revisions to the earlier draft.
Check with Eileen Probasco at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough for details on the current progress of the plan.
