Palmer Comprehensive PlanProject Date: 2005 Project DescriptionThe Agnew::Beck team has worked on many comprehensive plans with small towns and villages around Alaska. This project marks the first time we’ve had the chance to work in a community with a long history of comprehensive planning. Our responsibility was to assist the community in updating its 1999 Comprehensive Plan. The need for this update was driven by the continuing rapid growth of Palmer and surrounding areas. The project took advantage of a strategic plan recently completed by students from the University of Washington’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, called Pioneering Palmer’s Future: Strategies for Managing Growth. Agnew::Beck Consulting worked with sub-consultants Land Design North, HDR Alaska, Inc. and Northern Economics, Inc. The goal of this project was to help the City of Palmer develop a comprehensive plan that is both visionary and practical, and to help the community guide change so Palmer will continue to be a great place to live and visit 20 years or more into the future. Agnew::Beck provided technical expertise and advice, facilitation, and production support so that the community could clarify issues, set goals, define and start work on achievable action plans. Some of the goals that were addressed in this Comprehensive Plan update include:
Agnew::Beck worked with the community throughout 2005 and earlier part of 2006, conducting working group meetings, a community open house and a Community Workshops. Below is a link to the final Comprehensive Plan that has been approved by the Palmer City Council. Publications
