Prince William Sound Marine Trail

Project Date: 2009 to present
Project Manager: Chris Beck
Client: National Wildlife Federation and partners
Location: Prince William Sound

Project Description

Alaska State Parks, National Wildlife Federation, and their many partners are exploring the concept of a Prince William Sound Marine Trail, a world-class water trail along the coast of Prince William Sound.

Agnew::Beck is assisting the project by conducting the public participation and facilitation process that will precede any final trail decisions.

The Prince William Sound Marine Trail project addresses the trend toward tourism growth in the Sound. The project aims to to attract visitors who will appreciate and respect the area's fragile wilderness by developing an infrastructure for sustainable forms of tourism.

A trail might extend from Whittier to Valdez to Cordova with a spur trail leading to the southwestern Sound. The trail could involve connecting a series of island and mainland sites for use by small groups and independent travelers in kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, and other small watercraft. Trail facilities could be located on municipal, state, federal, and private lands and include campsites, resting areas and safe havens.

Over the last two years, scoping efforts have indicated strong local interest in this project. For more detailed information, read the Marine Trail Concept Paper.
