Project Description

Community Engagement
Agnew::Beck and project partners are working with PWS communities to:

  • Document and share stories about the Sound, and the voices of those who live in and use the area.
  • Increase public understanding about the Sound's resources, including those still recovering from the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
  • Help conserve the natural and cultural resources of the Sound and contribute to the continued restoration of those still recovering from the oil spill.
  • Promote sustainable economic health.
  • Connect people to the Sound and foster appropriate recreation and tourism activities.

Understanding of the Projects
Project partners initiated the projects with the understanding that:

  • PWS is a particularly wonderful place; well-loved for good reason.
  • Tourism and recreation activity continue to grow in PWS; the impacts of this growth are positive and negative.
  • PWS has been studied as intensively as any marine region in the world, in part due to the oil spill, yet public knowledge of the results of this research is limited.
  • The community should have a voice in PWS planning efforts and recreation-project funding and spending.
  • Collaboration is required to manage and support the continued recovery of the Sound's resources.
