Aleknagik Comprehensive Strategic Development PlanProject Date: 2005 Project DescriptionAleknagik is located in the Bristol Bay region of southwest Alaska. This region like many in Alaska, is in a state of profound economic and social transition. While cultural traditions remain strong, mining, oil and gas development, and tourism are emerging prospects in the region. Meanwhile commercial fishing, the industry that has long been the region's primary economic engine, is in the midst of major challenges and restructuring. In this context there is a tremendous need for community planning, to help villages clarify their own goals, preserve their values and benefit from development. Agnew::Beck Consulting worked with the residents of Aleknagik to update their Comprehensive Strategic Development Plan. Meetings with the planning team were held to gather existing information about village issues and prepare the initial draft of the plan. The draft comp plan was available for community review and comment durring the community workshops. Project goals included:
