Reclaiming Futures, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative

Project Date: 2002
Project Manager: Thea Agnew Bemben
Client: United Way
Location: Anchorage

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation created the Reclaiming Futures grant initiative to fund five-year projects in 10 communities nationwide. The purpose of Reclaiming Futures is to create a seamless continuum of services to provide intervention and treatment for substance abuse issues among youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

Thea Agnew Bemben, working with the Foraker Group, helped facilitate weekly meetings of collaborating agencies over a six-month proposal development period. Thea wrote the successful $1.25 million grant proposal that created the Strengthening Circles program in Anchorage. Nationwide, 330 applicants competed for funding.
